Design module

Texturize

Displace any triangle mesh along its normals and export STL. Empty canvas starts a 50 mm cube; the usual path is import STL/OBJ. Live-link Mesh Sculptor or a Node mesh is optional and never automatic. This module does not emit G-code. Want to design the solid first? That is Mesh Sculptor.

How it works

Texturize in 3dSynth: a mesh with world-space displacement, distinct from Mesh Sculptor’s lathe bump map.

Texturize is a derived layer. The recipe (mapping, amplitude, masks, texture) is saved in the project. Displaced vertices are not. Switching back to Mesh Sculptor does not bake the texture in.

  • Add Texturize — empty canvas opens a 50 mm cube with Knurl (bump-shaded; optional 3D Preview). Export Mesh from the toolbar bakes STL.
  • Load STL / OBJ — drop a file on the viewport, or live-link Mesh Sculptor / Node mesh when you want the form to stay parametric.
  • Pick a pattern — Simple kernels (knurl, grid, dots, stripes, hex), Pattern texture tiles, SVG library, or an uploaded heightmap (optional Make seamless).
  • Map in millimetres — triplanar by default; cubic, cylindrical, spherical, and planar XY / XZ / YZ are available.
  • Mask lids — skip top and bottom by angle, or paint include/exclude on the surface.
  • Export Mesh — toolbar bake at Draft–Ultra. The source mesh stays clean.

Not the Mesh Sculptor bump map

Mesh Sculptor’s bump-map effect displaces along lathe ring normals using its own UVs. Texturize is the other job: world-space projections, adaptive subdivision so CAD STLs have enough density, and angle / surface masks so lids stay smooth. Use Mesh Sculptor to design the form; use Texturize to texture the body.

What Texturize is

Texturize displaces any triangle mesh in world space and exports STL. The source shape stays a clean body you can re-texture.

  • Input: imported STL/OBJ or a live Mesh Sculptor mesh, plus mapping/mask settings.
  • Output: baked STL. No G-code.
  • Unlike Mesh Sculptor bump-map: that effect rides lathe-ring normals while forming the solid. Texturize is a separate texturing pass on any mesh.
  • Limits: still send the STL to a slicer. Displacement is not a CAD filleting tool.

Texture it in the app.

Free to tinker. Open Texturize, start from the cube or drop an STL, set mapping and masks, then export STL for your slicer.
